    ALARMING DANGERS OF GAS STOVES

Experts are sounding the alarm about the hidden dangers of gas stoves. ‘Gas appliances can produce levels of air pollution inside homes that would be illegal outdoors in the US.’ A 2013 meta-analysis of 41 studies found that children living in homes with gas stoves had a 42% higher risk of experiencing asthma symptoms, and, over their lifetime, a 24% increase in the risk of being diagnosed with asthma.

    DO YOU KNOW YOUR ENZYMES?

Apart from the benefits as stated in the name, there are other lessor known benefits derived from a good enzyme supplement:
    1. Amylase: Helps in the digestion of foods rich in carbohydrates, such as bread, pasta, and rice. It can alleviate symptoms of gas and bloating associated with starch digestion.
    2. Protease: Essential for the digestion of protein-rich foods such as meat, dairy, and legumes. It can aid in reducing inflammation, supporting immune function, and promoting muscle recovery and repair.
    3. Invertase: Helps in the digestion of sugary foods and can provide quick energy. It also supports overall carbohydrate metabolism.
    4. Malt Diastase: Aids in the digestion of grains and malted foods. It can enhance nutrient absorption and provide a steady release of energy.
    5. Lipase: Crucial for the digestion of dietary fats found in oils, butter, and fatty foods. It supports the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) and can help manage weight and cholesterol levels.
    6. Cellulase: Assists in digesting fibrous plant foods such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. It can improve gut health, prevent constipation, and enhance nutrient absorption.
    7. Lactase: Essential for individuals with lactose intolerance, it helps prevent symptoms like bloating, gas, and diarrhea when consuming dairy.

The combination of these enzymes supports the complete digestion of macronutrients: carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. This can lead to better nutrient absorption and overall digestive comfort.

How to maintain blood sugar levels

HOW TO IMPROVE BLOOD SUGAR LEVELS

The main culprits behind poor health are high intake of sugar and high fructose corn syrup found in thousands of food products and drinks, refined grains, and processed foods. Many people live in ‘food deserts,' consuming calorie-rich, refined foods with very few fresh vegetables and fruits. Adding a lack of exercise to this lifestyle creates the perfect conditions for diabetes, high cholesterol, and heart disease.

Try following the suggestions listed below to attain and maintain good health:

    • Avoid sugar and refined grains.
    • Replace rice, pasta, and potatoes with vegetables and/or legumes/beans, as they have a lower glycemic index (GI).
    • Substitute potatoes with sweet potatoes. If you eat potatoes, do so in moderation (they have a high GI) and eat them cold: cooling down potatoes can lower their GI by 30% because the starch becomes more resistant to digestion.
    • Use apple cider vinegar in your meals or drink 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in water with your meals: it decreases the GI by 15 to 35%.
    • Substitute whole wheat bread with non-sugared whole oats, which contain a large amount of soluble fiber that slows the absorption of glucose.
    • Drink green tea with your meals: it enhances satiety and decreases the digestion of carbohydrates by blocking enzymes (maltase, alpha-glucosidase).
    • Omega-3 fatty acids lower the risk of type 2 diabetes.
    • Remember that fish is better than red meat.
    • Avoid all processed meats.
    • ‘Light' drinks containing artificial sweeteners like aspartame are no better than sugared drinks.

By following these guidelines, you can improve your health and reduce the risk of chronic diseases.

THE SCARY LONG-TERM EFFECT OF COLIC

And we may have been under the impression that once the crying stops, all will be ok. Seems not!
    Here is what researchers found:
    • Infant colic is associated with increased risk of migraine in later years.
    • Children with prolonged excessive crying had an increased risk of lower IQ scores
    • A high percentage of children with IC show allergic and psychological disorders later in childhood
    • Most studies show an association between IC and behavioural problems in children such as aggressiveness and a feeling of supremacy
    • Sleep disorders (56.25% of ex-colicky babies compared to 12.50% of ex-non-colicky infants)

Combined Cannabis and Nicotine Pregnancy Risk!

COMBINED CANNABIS AND NICOTINE PREGNANCY RISK!

Please take note of this very important new study and the alarming findings: combined Cannabis and Nicotine Use During Pregnancy Raises Infant Death Risk!
As published in JAMA Network Open, researchers found that using both cannabis and nicotine during pregnancy significantly increases the risk of maternal and neonatal morbidity, including infant death, preterm birth, and infants being small for gestational age. The combined use quadrupled the risk of infant death compared to non-users.
Experts emphasise avoiding both substances during pregnancy, as cannabis is associated with diminished foetal neurological function. Additionally, nicotine negatively impacts placental function, affecting foetal nutrition and oxygen.

PSILOCYBIN SHOWS PROMISE IN ANOREXIA TREATMENT

PSILOCYBIN SHOWS PROMISE IN ANOREXIA TREATMENT

A recent study showcases psilocybin's potential in treating anorexia nervosa, a disorder with high mortality rates. Psilocybin improved cognitive flexibility and body weight maintenance in an animal model of anorexia, unveiling a brain mechanism to alleviate rigid thought patterns. Considering that enhanced cognitive flexibility after psilocybin treatment is reported to occur in individuals with depression, it is plausible that psilocybin could improve symptoms by breaking down cognitive inflexibility. This breakthrough offers new therapeutic avenues beyond traditional antidepressants, which often fail in underweight anorexia patients.

    Are you mineral deficient?

    ARE YOU MINERAL DEFICIENT?

We are being systematically depleted of lifespan minerals as we are being overloaded with ageing-oxidant minerals such as lead, mercury, aluminum, tin, cadmium and others. Minerals are considered co-factors for enzymes and early symptoms of mineral deficiency are symptoms of enzyme insufficiency. This means that the enzymes depend on minerals for their function.

    FIVE NATURAL SOLUTIONS FOR INSOMNIA

There is nothing worse than not being able to sleep as it affects the way you function throughout the day and can also have a far-reaching impact on your health. There are, however, simple and natural ways to help you catch some valuable shut-eye.
    1. STAY AWAY FROM STIMULANTS
Although alcohol is classified as a relaxant precisely because it promotes GABA, it actually promotes anxiety.
    2. INCREASE MELATONIN
One way to increase melatonin is to provide more of the building blocks used to make serotonin: (5-HTP), which is made from various nutrients, including folic acid; vitamins B3 (niacin), B6 and C; zinc and tryptophan.
    3. CONSIDER BEHAVIOURAL TECHNIQUES
Therapy, such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) can help insomnia by encouraging patients to acknowledge the stress that is preventing them from sleeping and helping them to develop ways of dealing with it. One method is to identify negative or unhelpful thoughts, such as ‘I just can’t sleep without my pills’ and changing them.
    4. TAKE MINERALS THAT CALM
If you’re much stressed, or you consume too much sugar, your magnesium levels may well be low. Your diet is more likely to be lower in magnesium than calcium – so make sure you’re eating plenty of magnesium-rich foods such as seeds, nuts, green vegetables, whole grains and seafood.
    5. TRY HELP FROM HERBS
Many herbs are said to have sleep-inducing properties. The best known of these is valerian, which is sometimes referred to as ‘nature’s Valium’. It seems to work by promoting the body’s release of GABA, and by providing the amino acid glutamine, from which the brain can make GABA. Valerian is a good alternative to GABA.
